Merchants' Row, Old City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Restoration and adaptive reuse of a group of four 19th-century historical buildings in Old City. These abandoned buildings were transformed into nineteen contemporary dwelling units, a gym and two commercial spaces. The exteriors were restored using historical photographs and documents provided by the Philadelphia Historical Commission.

Merchants' Row received a 2004 Grand Jury Project Award from the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. The jury found the project "not only returned the four buildings back to economic use, but also helped revitalize this important urban corner. The jury was particularly impressed with the quality of the exterior restoration."
